Story: The Mistaken Valentine
Can Valentine’s Day be about more than romance? This is the main idea I wanted to explore when I wrote The Mistaken Valentine story and supporting holiday module activities.
In the story, Itty Bitty Kitty examines the idea of ‘what she would do for love’ as she figures out what happened to the missing special valentine she made for Manny, a boy she has a crush on. As she explores this idea of ‘anything for love’ she discovers what she will and won’t do for love as well as learning that friendship is just as important.
Friendship is important and requires care in the choices we make. In The Mistaken Valentine, students can relate and examine the experiences and choices that Itty Bitty Kitty makes then compare these choices to his or her experiences. To help facilitate this, I wrote different activities to guide students to think about their personal relationships and the choices they’ve made.
