Story: The Great Race
Happy New Year! We just celebrated the new year on January 1, 2020. On new year’s day in the U.S. many people watch the Rose Parade and the Rose Bowl football game. As an Oregonian, I happily watched the Oregon Ducks win the Rose Bowl ! Yippee!
Did you know that we can celebrate new year’s day again in January but this time it will be Chinese New Year on January 25, 2020. You maybe wondering why the dates are different. Well, for Chinese New Year the date changes every year because it is based on the lunar calendar, while the western new year is based on the solar calendar.
To help celebrate Chinese New Year in the classroom, we made the holiday learning module The Chinese Zodiac Signs: 2020 The Year of the Rat. This module features fun and insightful information about all twelve zodiac signs, activity sheets and the story The Great Race, a rewritten Chinese tale that explains how twelve animals were picked for the zodiac.
