17 Days Till Halloween

Monday is here and I can’t believe that Halloween is in only 17 days! This is one of my favorite times of the year. I love the different shades of red, gold and orange as the leave change colors. By this time of year, my students were settled into the rhythms and routines of learning English so I liked the Halloween theme to add variety. It was fun to begin a class with a spooky ghost story or new song which introduced new vocabulary and sentence patterns. In that spirit (boo!), I am going to focus on our Halloween song and learning module called Trick or Treat Street! I just finished updating it with these four new features:

  • Musical Director’s Notes
  • Musical Scripts
  • Role-Play Director’s Notes
  • Role-Play Scripts

Trick or Treat Street is a song built on dialogue between a Vampire, a Werewolf, a Witch and some Trick-or-Treaters.

Here is a sample of the song.

Hee hee hee! I always liked acting the role of the witch!

I wrote two types of scripts for the students: a Musical Script and a Role-Play Script. For the teacher, I wrote two types of Director’s Notes: Musical Director’s Notes and Role-Play Director’s Notes.

Let’s first look at the Musical Director’s Notes.

The Musical Director’s Notes include multiple activities with detailed steps on how to work with the Musical Scripts.

The Musical Script breaks down the song into characters; each character takes up one page making it easier for assigning characters to a student or groups of students.

The Role-Play Director’s Notes includes multiple activities with detailed steps, a full script with stage direction notes for actors and audience. It’s to be used with the Role-Play Scripts.

Not only did my students learn naturally through song, play and dance but their parents enjoyed coming to the classroom and participating in the fun! Use these activities to spice up your classroom during Halloween!
